We know dogs are part of the family and an important part of being together on holiday. Normally we expect one or two dogs, but we are happy to accept more as long as they all get along!
The inner courtyard at Sykes Lodge we generally considered dog proof but from experience we know there are the jumpers, diggers and chewers who, if left unattended, may try to explore the wider countryside! We would hate you to spend your time searching for your dog rather than relaxing and to avoid any regrettable interactions with our own and neighbouring livestock, we ask that dogs never be left unattended anywhere outside.
The large paddock area (accessed via the metal gate at the end of the path behind the big flowerbed) is for guests' exclusive access. This is a perfect area for fun off the lead playing with the family.
There is a hot water tap outside near the jacuzzi if you need to wash your dog after a walk and dog towels under the sink. You should also find some bowls and a few toys if you forgot to pack some, along with a few poo bags if you run out.
Please also be vigilant and pick up all dog waste immediately and place in the commercial bin at the roadside.
We are sure you want to spend quality time with your dogs and ensure they enjoy their holiday too. Sykes Lodge is the perfect place for long walks over some unequalled, breath-taking countryside; set in the Howardian Hills area of outstanding natural beauty in the South Wolds region.
You can find a new walk every day of your holiday!
To help you explore some of the best walks that this region has to offer you can also use 'Walking the Wolds'.
These walks are chosen especially for dogs by Bill the one-eyed fox red retriever and his owner Mrs M, who sniff out the very best dog walks around. Think of them as hand (or maybe paw?) chosen especially for you. They have also thoughtfully identified dog friendly places to 'paws' for a rest and a cup of tea and slice of cake on your way. Some walks are only a few miles from Sykes Lodge, some further away, but hey, you are on holiday and the scenery is well worth the journey!
Click the button below to access the choice of over 50 walks. There is even a photographic gallery of each walk AND a delightful film clip starring Bill to inspire you. You can download a pdf and follow the link provided, which can be used on the Ordnance Survey app - so you can never get lost!
Plus, if you time it right, you can even join Bill & Mrs M. on a fully guided walking event with the promise of some hearty refreshments to finish.
Please ensure that no dogs are left unattended in the house unless caged for a very short period of time.
We are very lucky to enjoy the company of our own dog, Sandy, but we know there may be times when you don't want to be accompanied by your pet, for example you may want to eat out for the evening or it may be too hot to take a dog out all day in a car. In these circumstances, we may be able to offer a dog sitting service.
If we can do this ourselves, perhaps whilst you go out for the evening for a meal, this will be free of charge. If you are likely to be away for the day we can arrange for a responsible person to come and look after your dogs in Sykes Lodge, including feeding and exercise. If you think this is something you are likely to need, please give us as much notice as possible (before your arrival date) so we can fix something up. Please note, this is not a guaranteed service and will be charged on an hourly/half-day/daily rate directly with the dog sitter. If you would like to book this service your self please click on the link below
